World Moving’s highly trained packing team will come to your house to pack and wrap your effects and load your goods for your final destination (we can provide references if required). We are equipped to handle all aspects of your removal, including crating of specific items, special wrap on leather furnishings/ oil paintings and antiques.

Transportation and Terminology

Household effects can be transported internationally by various types of services depending on the quantity of effects, the speed of delivery required, routing and cost considerations.

The terminology applied to the various modes of transport available can be confusing and to assist you we have prepared the following summary for your information:

Sea Freight

With sea freight your household effects are loaded into large steel containers, which are then carried to your new destination by modern container ships. There are two main sizes of containers used for household effects shipments, a 20ft and a 40ft. Sea freight charges are calculated on the overall volume of your household effects being transported within the container.

Full Container Load (F.C.L)

This term applies to a container loaded, on a ‘sole use’ or ‘exclusive use’ basis. F.C.L’s can be positioned and loaded at your home, sealed in your presence, delivered directly to the port of export, and shipped on the best available vessel to coincide with your arrival in New Zealand. On arrival in New Zealand, the container can normally be delivered directly to your new residence for unpacking subject to local Customs and Ministry of Agricultural requirements, provided that it is a direct delivery from dockside and not via storage. There may be instances where a container is utilised for shipping a less than container load as this would be the most economic way in reducing crating costs. With this service your costs are calculated in exactly the same manner as LCL shipments, the only difference being that the container charge replaces any crating charges.

Groupage Shipments

With this service your household effects are loaded and shipped with other New Zealand bound household consignments once there is sufficient volume to fill a container.

Less than a Container Load (L.C.L)

Your household effects, after packing, are loaded into purpose built crates and loaded directly with the shipping line, or through a general freight forwarder for shipment to New Zealand. This service is beneficial for consignments that are of a small volume and originate in a country that does not have regular groupage services to New Zealand.

Air freight

Following the packing and collection of your effects, they are then delivered to the Airline, secured in enclosed airline pallets (Igloos), loaded into the cargo hold of the aircraft and flown directly to New Zealand. On arrival in New Zealand, World Moving will collect, customs clear and deliver to your new home.

Air freight has the advantage of speed, and can be cost effective given the time frames involved. All air freight charges are calculated on weight or a volume/weight ratio.

Certain commodities cannot be accepted for storage or transportation and we have listed some examples below.
