WHY PURCHASE INSURANCE?

Even though every care will be taken by us as movers, you will appreciate that the distance involved, coupled with the rigors of moving, means on occasion's loss and/or damage to your goods may occur. Ninety percent of all our customers take out some form of insurance protection. We will take every precaution to protect your goods but accidents and sometimes even mistakes can happen at any time.

INSURERS

We believe it is good to be impartial when insurance is involved. Our integrity is important so we choose not to self insure but to use a reputable insurance company that specialise in this field and do not have a hidden agenda.

This insurance is provided by the following insurers:
Liberty International Underwriters TM (LIU), a division of Liberty Mutual Group, www.liuaustralia.com.au

Types of insurance offered

If your household goods are packed by World Moving & Storage or a removal company appointed by World Moving & Storage, then the policy will cover "All Risks" of loss of or accidental damage to your household goods that occurs whilst your household goods are being transported or stored by the removal company. Please see the limited exclusions further on.

Total Loss Cover
If your household goods (or any part thereof) are not packed by the removal company, then the policy will only cover loss of or damage to your household goods if caused by one of the following events:

  • Collision or contact of the vessel or aircraft or truck with any external object other than water
  • Earthquake or volcanic eruption or lightning
  • Fire or explosion
  • General average sacrifice
  • Jettison or washing overboard
  • Overturning or derailment of the land conveyance

  2. Pairs and Sets The cost of an entire set of items even though not all the items in the set are lost or damaged.  The maximum compensation you will receive in the event of a claim recoverable under one of these cover extensions is NZD25, 000.
  3. Storage of customers goods at the customers request in an authorised warehouse or compound by the removal company prior to, during or after transit.

The policy can only be extended to cover these optional covers if the following three conditions are met:

  • You tell World Moving that you wish to extend the policy to cover these risks prior to the commencement of packing.
  • You pay the required additional premium

We recommend that you choose all of these cover extensions so that you are covered to the greatest extent. If your salesman has not yet discussed these cover extensions with you, then please contact him/her immediately.

BASIS OF SETTLEMENT

Regardless of which Basis of Settlement is selected the insurer will only pay market value for the following items:

UNDER INSURANCE

It is important that you realistically value your goods and don't under value your household goods. If you under value your household goods, then the amount of compensation you receive in the event of a claim will only be a very small proportion of what you would have received if you had not under-valued your household goods. E.g. If you insure your household goods for $50,000, but they are actually worth $100,000, then you will only receive 50% of your claim.

CLAIMS PROCEDURES

As soon as possible after the happening of an event which may give rise to a claim under the policy, the customer(s) must:

  • Take all reasonable steps to prevent any further loss or damage.
  • Note details of any loss or damage on the removal company's inventory &/or conditions report.

The removal company may settle claims under this policy under instructions from the insurer. If the claim is for more than the amount detailed in the excess, the removal company must send to the insurer the inventory &/or condition report, removal contract and full details of the items lost or damaged.

If the insured fails to comply with the duty of disclosure the insurer may be entitled to reduce its liability under the contract in respect of a claim or may cancel the contract. If the non disclosure is fraudulent the insurer may also have the option of avoiding the contract from its beginning.

DUTY OF DISCLOSURE
