Moving Guide

4 WEEKS BEFORE YOU MOVE

	Discard, sell or give away unwanted items
	Notify post office for redirection of mail and send out change of address notices
	Obtain medical and dental records
	Ensure birth and marriage records are complete
	Get school records and notify schools
	Notify insurance companies and cancel or transfer all policies
	Notify bank and credit card companies and arrange transfer or closure of accounts
	Advice electoral office, I.R.D., solicitor, church, local clubs
	Cancel or transfer all subscriptions for publications
	If moving overseas, ensure passports, visas, travel bookings and accommodations are finalised

2 WEEKS BEFORE YOU MOVE

	Confirm actual packing and moving dates with World Moving
	Arrange for cancellation of gas, electricity and phone service
	If you are handling some of your own packing, start packing a few boxes each day
	Dispose of all paints and flammables (we cannot move or store such items)

JUST BEFORE YOU MOVE

	Cancel all delivery services (milk, bread, newspaper)
	Clean out medicine cupboard and dispose of unwanted items
	Empty fuel from mowers etc.
	Remove food from fridge and freezer and defrost
	Dismantle any kit set furniture
	Arrange for simple breakfast on moving day - use disposable utensils
	Ensure all travel documents etc. are set aside for taking with you - don't forget books and games for the children
	If moving within NZ, water all your pot plants well, 2 to 3 days before moving
	Disconnect all electrical appliances
	Remove all pictures, mirrors, lightshades

ON MOVING DAY

	Be on hand or have an authorised person there to answer questions and to have a last look around and ensure nothing has been overlooked
	If applicable, sign inventory with packer and retain your copy in a safe place
	Make sure all important travel documents are set aside to avoid any possibility of these items being packed
	Unplug phone if owned
